According to Business Insider, this year will see employers scale back on perks such as fully-paid or subsidized gym memberships, mental health apps, and in-house smoothie bars as the economic outlook continues to be murky and other costs, including health insurance continue to rise. However, while the overhyped wellness benefits might be trimmed back, smart employers are indicating that they’re still investing in their employee’s health and wellness, just in a different format.

Instead of investing on the periphery with employee wellness, many organizations are set to invest in on-site preventative care services.  Preventative care services can take many forms, from simple vaccine clinics to full-service healthcare clinics that support the employee’s routine healthcare needs as well as specific workplace requirements. SNS Insider recently released data that suggests that employer investments in preventative care services, which stood at $27.65 billion in 2025, will grow at a compounded annual growth rate of approximately 6 percent per annum over the next 7 years.

The SNS Insider assessment of the on-site preventative care services market indicated that key driver of growth is an “increasing employer awareness of preventive healthcare benefits, rising healthcare costs, and the need to reduce employee absenteeism while improving long-term workforce productivity.” In short, investing in employee health will pay dividends by supporting business goals and growth through increasingly uncertain economic, social, and geopolitical conditions, improving employee retention, and being able to control the costs of healthcare.

While there are always factors that limit growth, including the costs and complexities of entry into the onsite preventative care space, SNS Insider notes that new developments in digital health can simplify the process making it more attainable for more employers. Telehealth options can extend the reach of a physical clinic services to employees who work in the field, on the road, or even from home

One area where particular value can be found is in identifying a built-for-purpose AI-enabled Occupational Health Electronic Health Record (OEHR) that can support clinical staff and optimize data to improve preventative care programs, as well as address data privacy, security, and compliance requirements. “Employers expanding their occupational health operations to provide primary care, disease management and health and wellness services is a strategic business move,” shared Jeff Donnell, President and CEO of Enterprise Health. “Investing in the right clinical staff and supporting them with tools and technology that address the unique needs of occupational health will further augment the return on investment in on-site preventative care services.”

As businesses begin to evaluate their plans and investments for the rest of 2026 and into 2027, evaluating the benefits of on-site preventative care services should be top of mind. With healthcare costs continuing to rise, environmental impacts on business productivity becoming more serious, and employee productivity and retention more important ever, being able to access medical care at work might just be the differentiator businesses need.
