When evaluating a new software, the technical specifications are a core factor in your decision making. But the training, post-implementation support, and ongoing communication with your vendor are equally critical for a successful migration.
The first four articles in our series on selecting the best occupational health software have walked you through how to select the right occupational health software for your organization. Our final installment will leave you with the tools to choose the right partner and make sure you know exactly what happens after signing the contract.
The best software can only take you so far. While it may seem difficult to evaluate and quantify the expected experience working with a specific vendor, there are some qualities that can indicate a reliable partner.
Throughout the evaluation process, be vigilant in confirming that the vendor sets clear expectations and delivers on its promises. Ask about the process and timeline of implementation and training—and how they are equipped and accountable to meet those timelines. Availability of support and resources is another key indicator; make sure that any documentation is up-to-date and their support team is fully trained, experienced and knows occupational health.
Look for the following from a vendor to facilitate a smoother deployment:
- Clear implementation plans, processes, and timelines
- Legacy system migration details, including scope and timelines
- Training outlines—who, what, and when
- Post-implementation support documentation, including resources and SLAs
- User resources including libraries and a user community
Key Questions to Ask
To help build a greater understanding of the benefits of a particular OEHR be sure to ask the following three questions when meeting with a vendor and evaluating a solution:
- Is your system ONC-ACB certified for interoperability?
- Do your migration services include comprehensive data conversion?
- Are your training services role-based?
